May Day Book Party Celebrate the Release of Long Shot, Vol. 27, Beat Bush Issue May 1, 2004, 6:30-9:30pm Bowery Poetry Club 308 Bowery, NYC Admission $10 Thankfully, the defeat of George W. Bush in November 2004 is no longer a long shot. In order to make a contribution in the literary world to this important national cause, Long Shot literary magazine is publishing a "Beat Bush Issue." Come celebrate our latest and definitely lastest issue with the editors and poets whose work is included in the volume: Cheryl Boyce-Taylor Bob Holman Edwin Torres Janine Pommy Vega Bob Rosenthal Liza Jessie Peterson Andy Clausen Donald Lev Nancy Mercado Jabari Jones Rania Khalil Vivian Demuth Danny Shot Eliot Katz Long Shot's Beat Bush Issue is a 224-page volume, featuring 118 contributors,including a mix of poetry, artwork, and political articles. It includes work that explicitly addresses the Bush administration and its policies, as well as work that deals directly or indirectly with contemporary social issues that could hopefully be more effectively addressed by a better president. In addition to the 14 poets listed above, contributors to the issue include: Adrienne Rich, Howard Zinn, Arundhati Roy, Ishmael Reed, Marge Piercy, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, JayneCortez, Pedro Pietri, Amber Tamblyn, Leon Golub, Nancy Spero, Miguel Algarin, Alicia Ostriker, Ed Sanders, Frances Fox Piven, Ida Applebroog, Wanda Coleman, William Greider, Martha Rosler, Komar & Melamid, Eileen Myles, Danny Schechter, Anne Waldman, Allen Ginsberg, Carl Rakosi, EnidDame, Luis J. Rodriguez, Micah Ian Wright, and many more. Admission for the event is $10. A portion of the door will be donated to groups organizing this summer's protests of the Republican convention.
